Well ...if some of our members were not cheap enough, I wouldn't mind asking each of them to send individual flowers through FTD for $30.00. Given the situation where we have to badger each of our members to squeeze out $20.00 for IV contributions - cheap sense makes sense!
I've seen people spend $20 on Sivaji - The BOSS - than on spending money for some worhtwhile cause.

If we see the history H1B and GC numbers were never increased except 2004 20k inpast 15 years In 2000 it was increasd temporarlily for 4 years.Also EB numbers were never increased except temporary reliefs.If it is increased by Skill bill in current form that is really an acheivement. If there is a possiblity they may increase H1B because that is temorary visa(But in reallity not) and GC numbers may remain same. But if increased to 115k then also cap will be reached in another 1 month because there are more number of Desi companies than number of H1Bs. Thats why they are asking exemptions for MS people and 20% adjustment for every year. We have to wait and see whether congress fall on this trap to do this without analysing the impact.

I and my wife transfer notice by mail. I have no idea, why I received them.
I read on the forums where people successfully called USCIS and got their Receipt Number with their name and DOB. However, they mentioned USCIS that they were waiting for more than 90 days to get level 2 IO support.

Hey guys
My PR card in Canada was not issued; they rejected the photos I submitted with the original application. Now they're asking I submit new ones in PERSON!
I will need to get a Canadian Travel document now to re-enter Canada now. Does anyone know how long it takes to get that issued?
Plus, Since I'm using AP as well the whole re-entering the US with the Canadian Visas in my passport is once again an issue. I'm considering giving up on the PR card, since I've technically already completed my landing; I can re-apply for the PR card if and when I decide to move to Canada permanently. Can you guys advise?

I suggest you not to go back for pictures - You can get your cards when you decide to move permanently. Till then , if you need to travel to Canada you can do so only by road ( your own or rental car ) by showing your passport and landing docs. If you want to use any airlines , you 'll have to apply for travel docs at the nearest consulate.
Rest assured, you can get your card when you finally decide to land. It 'll not be complicated. Just approach the CIC center and file for fresh PR Card with some attested documents.

Ditto - been here since 1998... Finally when one does get a GC, it's not really a high point of life - just another pending task accomplished so one can move on.
One of those things - having it will not make a HUGE difference to life, but not having it does have its consequences. Funny how this works... :)

Also, if you have an advanced degree from an acredited university outside US AND have been working for 3 years in a related field, you will also be exempt from the cap regardless of whether you are applying/have applied in EB2 or EB3 (believe me...you would think that people with advanced degrees would have applied in EB2...but there are cases where people have had to apply in EB3 category even with an advanced degree).
I am not sure about that. Most of the EB3 guys have advance degrees (including me) but not necessarily with US degrees.

This is not a personal advice but general appeal to all would be employers.
I hope you have researched and understood obligations of an employer.
By virtue of owning the business and taking 100% of returns, the employer has to assume 100% risk.
If not on revenue sharing with employee ( 80-20 etc) , the employer has no business of NOT paying on bench. Either the employee is on rolls or has to be advised to take LOA or let go.
For other unprofessional tactics, there is simply no excuse. Employment is at will. If employers cant deal with that, too bad. They should not be starting the business.
I have worked with Desi employers who have consistently run on best practices and completely adhering to law of the land. It can be done and the cost of doing that has to be factored into the business plan. If it is too costly as per your financial numbers, then you are not ready for it financially.

I plan to apply for SIN but is it required to do medical insurance, PO box and bank account right now?
I am returning back on monday and as of now don't know if i will go to canada or stay in US.

Getting the SIN number is important like SSN number in US. You will need it no matter if you will or will not return to Canada. Get a medium size PO box for atleast one year that will cost you around $80-$100 but its worth it. Opening the account is also important. well, really I dont have words to express what frustration means, so be it. my PD is Nov 2003 (original Labor) and filed 485 in June 2004 and have 7 EAD cards thus far.
Started to work on EAD since 2005.
This is my 11th year in this country, never tried to do labor substitution always was and is a legal and law abiding since I came to this country on H1, despite changing jobs been as a developer since then - till now.
This GC process got me grey very soon, unsure if I become bald. This is the state of legal immigration in this country, God bless.

I can't help but laugh at all these taking moral high ground. They talk like this even after looking at what is happening in so called highly ethical american corporates.
There are rules and people smart enough and daring enough go ahead and push it/bend it as much as possible to achive what interests them most.
As of April 2009, the person who asked the original question and the consultant who asked the question assumed they should be able to land a contract job once October rolls around.
It is a common practice, without going into how it is unfair for the numerous others who have job offers in hand.
Now what would you say to the people who sold houses worth 500,000$ to the people who are making 40K per annum or so? The people who took the risk bear the reward or repercussions.
The person who took a risk by applying for H1 without a client offer, and the consultant would have been rewarded financially if they were able to land a job.
Now that they can't, they have this potential of being illegal stay/out of status or whatever that they have to deal with.
So I suppose, if we can help him with answers to the questions he is seeking and provide any guidance that will help him deal with the results of his decision , as many are doing on thread, that is great. If not, don't have get so preachy/flamey.

I agree with nousername and sledgehammer. It's funny how people justify unethical behavior by saying hey everybody is just trying to improve their own lives. Criminals are trying to improve their own life too and that doesn't excuse crime. The issue here is simple. This lady went for the quick and easy way out, applied for an H1B with some sleazy body shopper without having a project in hand and in the process, no doubt deprived someone better-deserving who actually had a job in hand.
Anyways, if you are not being paid, you are out of status. Best option for you is to apply for a COS to H4 right away so your out-of-status time doesn't come back to haunt you later. Without pay stubs it is doubtful that it will be approved so most probably you might have to go back to your home country and re-enter on an H4 stamp.

Although the thread title says "Reimburse the core team" and I know that the core team will not take any money (and do not expect the memebrs to reimburse them) from the fund that we are planning on creating here...Stilll by contributing to this fund we can make sure that core does not have to bear any out of pocket personal expense in future while working on "our" goal.
Lets see how many of us are actually inetested in contributing. Once we have the number we can set a realistic goal and divide amongst ourselves.
For that I suggest we give this thread good two days to develop and check other members responses...
So here is a chance for everyone to contribute to our own goal. Lets keep this going. Who ever is interested pls reply. I will do a final count after 2 days as suggested and take it from there....

To be more accurate, it is not porting I-140, it is retaining your old priority date, and using it with your new I-140 petition.
When you move, your new company will have to start the GC process from the begining - Labor, I-140. It is just that when they file your new I-140, you will have to provide a copy of your old one and request to keep the old priority date.
I think there are some requirements to get this right - one of them being your job classification should be the same. There is a thread on this subject somewhere on this forum, you can dig it out and ask questions there.
